Loans

UF primarily offers student loans through the Federal Direct Loan Program, but there are a number of other loan programs available at UF. These include:

Direct Loans

The Federal Direct Loan Program consists of the following types of loans:

For these loans, the U.S. Department of Education is the lender and delivers loan funds directly to the school. UF disburses the loans after your eligibility has been determined and classes have begun. When it is time for repayment, you (or your parents) will send all loan payments to the federal loan servicer.

Studentaid.gov, the U.S. Department of Education’s Federal Loan site, is a great resource for students looking for more information on student loans. Besides being the main portal for federal student loans, the site provides comprehensive information regarding repayment options, loan discharge, loan forgiveness programs, and much more.

A number of repayment plans are available under the Direct Loan Program. More Loan Repayment information is available.

Returning Disbursed Federal Loans

If you wish to return all or part of your disbursed federal direct loan, please contact the UF financial aid office (SFA) for processing instructions.  Payments made directly to the federal servicer while the student is in a deferment status can result in repayment charge issues with the University of Florida.

For more information on loan refusals and cancellations, please visit the UF Bursar’s website.
